Health and Safety Policy

 Writing a Health and Safety Policy is a very personal thing, but you can get the head start you need with our Health and Safety policy documents. 

Your policy should contain your: 

Statement of intent, which should outline your commitment to Health and Safety, and goals that your organisation strives to achieve. This should be signed and dated by the most senior person in your organisation.

Details of your company structure, highlighting specific peoples duties. 

Arrangements, about areas of safety, such as fire, smoking, manual handling, etc.

Under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, the minimum you must do is: 

Identify what could cause injury or illness in your business (hazards.) 

Decide how likely it is that someone could be harmed and how seriously (the risk) 

Take action to eliminate the hazard, or if this isn’t possible, control the risk.

The 5 steps of Risk assessment are: 

Step 1: Identify hazards

Step 4: Make a record of the findings

A work method statement, sometimes called a "safe system of work". 

A document that details the way a work task or process is to be completed. 

Method statements should outline the hazards involved and include a step by step guide on how to do the job safely.
